MG A 1957
Our car:
Celebrating more than six decades since its first journey on the roads, the 1957 MG A remains an unforgettable emblem of sophistication and prestige. Born in an era when such luxuries were afforded by only a select few, this car stands out for its sportive roots and a design distinctly different from most vehicles present in Italy in the early '70s.
Our MG A, a precious find, crossed the English Channel to arrive in Italy, boasting the original configuration of the first series with rear flashing indicators. Its first home was Livorno, Tuscany, where it spent many years before a change of ownership saw it move to Pisa, changing its license plates to those characteristic white background of the area.
Despite the years and various owners, the MG A has faced challenging times, undergoing several unfortunate restorations, often necessitated by the damage caused by the aggressive sea air and salt. Our discovery of this gem happened almost by chance, following a trade-in. Determined to restore it to its former glory, we embarked on a comprehensive restoration, attending to every detail of the bodywork, mechanics, geometry, and aesthetics.
Today, the MG A is in excellent condition, certified of historical interest by ASI. Its reliability, beauty, and the thrill it offers while driving make it the ideal car for those wishing to dive into the nobility of historic events like the Mille Miglia.
History:
The MG A marks a golden era for the British Motor Corporation, produced from 1955 to 1962. With its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1955, this car was a stylistic revolution compared to previous models, selling over 100,000 units. Most of these vehicles crossed British borders, finding roads all over the world.
The design origins of the MG A trace back to 1951, the brainchild of Syd Enever, who designed an aerodynamic body for competing at Le Mans. His innovation didn’t stop there, as a new frame was developed to overcome the limitations of previous models, leading to an auto that Leonard Lord, president of BMC, could not ignore despite previous agreements with Donald Healey.
Distinctly different from past MG models, the MGA was a symbol of renewal, earning the nickname "the first of a new line." Equipped with the BMC's B-series engine and available with either wire wheels or steel discs, the MGA is an icon of style and performance that continues to turn heads.
